What we've been up to...

I'm been a neglectful blogger since the last time I posted, so I wanted to catch up a little bit before our trip to Texas. That's right, we're leaving on a jet plane this Wednesday so this will probably be the last post before we get back. And then I'll have plenty of things to blog about.

Just to post the milestones, Cameron is trying to crawl with his knees now. Before he was just scooting along in an army crawl, but now he will pull his knees up under him. He can also push himself into the sitting position while he crawling around. He is such a fast learner and sure knows how to get where he wants to go. I will get some videos of him soon and post them.

And finally something about me to post:

Two weekends ago Logan and I both got our hair cut so that we'd look presentable to my family in Texas. His hair was getting pretty shaggy (sorry no pics of him), and I was just tired of my hair being long. So I told the hair stylist that I wanted to cut it as short as I could go with still being about to wear it in a pony tail.

I didn't exactly fix it the way I wanted in this shot but you get the idea.

A few weeks ago I made some sugar cookie dough for Leah to help make when Cameron went to bed at night. She loved using the cookie cutters and picking what shapes to use. I was surprised at how well she did with them. This was a great activity to spend some one-on-one time with her. I know she get jealous of Cameron because he requires lots of our attention. The cookies turned out really tasty, and she decided to make pink frosting (no big surprise there - she loves pink!) to go on top.

These are just some other random shots of the kids. I took some pics at our church's playgroup last week. They set up a pool in my friend's backyard and let the kids play while the mommies chat. Leah usually plays in the water for a total of 10 mins, and then she says she done swimming. I think she doesn't like it when other kids splash her. So she chose to swing instead.

Cameron was just content to sit in the shade still buckled in his stoller.

Cameron army crawling

He is now 7 months old and scooting across the floor on his belly. I don't know if I'm ready for him to crawl. But ready or not, here he comes. He has been a little happier now that he can go where he wants to go, though he gets mad when I have to take things away that I don't want messed up. Leah loves to put toys down just a few feet in front of him and say "Go get them, Cam!" and when he gets them she will "Good job!"

I'm glad that she is a good big sister (most of the time).

Happy Fourth of July - Saturday

Saturday morning Cameron took a long nap so Logan said he would stay home while I took Leah to Provo's Freedom Festival. We caught the very end of the Grand Parade, and she got to see girls dressed up in Princess dresses. She thought that was pretty cool and wanted them to come back. We went to the art tables set up for kids where Leah made two beaded bracelets, got her nails painted, and made a little craft with stickers. I wanted to get her face painted but the line was too long. We also watched some live entertainment of some girls and guys doing some Irish folk dancing. Leah liked that and was excited when they would come back on stage to do another number.

It was pretty crowded so we only stayed for a couple of hours which included hiking there and back to our car. It would have been fun to see more of the booths with Logan and buy some yummy food but we didn't want to drag both kids there.

After the kids had naps, Logan's dad and sister Jenna drove down to hang out with us. They got a hotel room in Provo so we took Leah and Cameron swimming there. The water was pretty chilly but we got used to it after a while.

Once again Cameron was a little fish in the water, and it felt like he was going to swim out of our arms any minute. He didn't stop moving his little arms and legs while in the water and didn't mind getting splashed in the face.

Leah is a little more apprehensive about getting water in her face or going under water, but I've been trying to work on that with her. She still had a great time jumping of the side and watching Grandpa make little splashes with his fist.

Saturday night we grilled hamburgers at our place and put the kids to bed early. Then Logan's dad and Jenna smoked us playing Hand and Foot, one of our favorite card games. We were so ashamed of the score that we just stopped after two rounds and ate cherry pie and ice cream. We decided not to try and see fireworks this year because we didn't want to brave the traffic. Maybe next year we'll take Leah when she's a little older and can stay up late.

Fourth of July weekend- Friday

Logan had last Friday off (minus a little bit of time checking emails and editing stories for the paper) so we decided to take the kids to Cascade Springs. We took Leah up there when she a year and half but she didn't enjoy it as much then.

This time when we got out of the car, she went running up the path so excited to see all the little water falls. I left her bend down and touch the water which she thought was so fun. I think she was just excited to be out of the car after the 40 minute car ride winding up the Alpine Loop. It was so fun to see how green it was up in the mountains since we've had so much rain this year.

This place is such a fun and easy hike for families with young children. We were able to take our stroller with Cameron in it and only had to lift it up one section that had stairs.

On the way home we drove up the backside of Cascade Springs on a gravel road that brought you down by Midway and Deer Creek Reservoir. That was a pretty short drive but bumpy with all the rocks. It was a great ride home until the end when Leah forgot to tell us she needed to use the bathroom and peed in her car seat. She was pretty traumatized because she couldn't get out of her wet seat. I don't think I blame her. We finally made it home for naps and some relaxation time.

Oh, and when we were up at Cascade Springs, we ran into our old friends from our Chicago ward (Gavin and Lindsey C). They were there with their two kids, and their little girl is just the same age as Leah. It was so funny to run into them in such a remote area of Utah. It was fun to catch up with them. I just wish I remembered to take a picture together with them.

Cameron at 7 months old

Man, I felt like I just barely wrote about him turning six months old and here he is turning seven months. The time is flying by.

Cameron is definitely a mover. From the minute he wakes up he's trying to grab things - my hair, my earrings, whatever toys are around him on the floor, or whatever food we are eating at the table. And he is really close to crawling. He is starting an army crawl or shuffle as Logan calls it. Not only can he roll all over the place, but can now go forward. So I will have to make sure that we put things away that we don't want destroyed with slober. Leah was pretty good not getting into places she wasn't supposed to but I have a feeling he is going to be different. Mainly because he's a boy and more active and curious.

He still has two teeth on the bottom but still drools like crazy. He's our "human water fountain" and if he doesn't have a bib on, his shirt gets soaked within the hour. Logan and I have wondered if this is a normal thing. But it probably is normal, and part of his drooling problem is because he NEVER closes his mouth. You've seen the pictures.

He is also very vocal and wants to be in the middle of whatever is going on. He is famous jabbering away in his crib when he wakes up or when I've put him down for a nap but doesn't want to go to sleep. And another thing that he's a fan of is swimming at the pool or in the bath tub. When he gets in water, he can't stop moving. He reminds me of my nephew Dallin because he is such a fish and has to be dragged out of the pool. I think Cameron will be the same way when he gets older. He loves splashing, and I just put him on his belly in the tub and he looks like he is swimming.

Here's a link to a funny video of Cameron "talking" to me. He loves to make noise. For some reason I couldn't get the video to embed in this post. But check it out!
